SC Collegium recalls recommendation to appoint Justice K Vinod Chandran as Gauhati HC Chief Justice; instead recommends him as Patna HC Chief Justice

The Supreme Court Collegium on Tuesday (07.02.2023) recalled its recommendation of December 2022 to appoint Justice K Vinod Chandran as the Chief Justice (CJ) of the Gauhati High Court. Instead, he has now been recommended for elevation as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium on Tuesday (07.02.2023) recalled its recommendation of December 2022 to appoint Justice K Vinod Chandran as the Chief Justice (CJ) of the Gauhati High Court. Instead, he has now been recommended for elevation as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

Upon elevation of Justice Sanjay Karol, the former Chief Justice of Patna High Court, to the Supreme Court, the Collegium took the decision to fill the vacant post of Chief Justice of Patna High Court.

Justice Chandran is the senior-most Judge of the Kerala High Court. On November 8, 2011, he was sworn in as an additional judge of the Kerala High Court. On June 24, 2013, he became a permanent judge and will retire on April 24, 2025.

The Collegium also recommended the appointment of Justice Sandeep Mehta, senior-most judge of the Rajasthan High Court, as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court through a separate notification.
