Senior IAS officer Sanjay Malhotra (IAS:1990:RJ) was on Tuesday (08.02.2022) appointed as Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS) Ministry of Finance. Presently, he is serving as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), REC Ltd. Ministry of Power.
The position of Secretary DFS fell vacant just a day ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget when Debashish Panda (IAS:1987:UP) failed to get a extension after completing his tenure in the government. As a stop gap arrangement, the government then gave Rajesh Verma (IAS:1987:OR) the additional charge of Sanjay Malhotra appointed as new Secretary, Department of Financial Services Secretary DFS.
Sanjay took over as the Chairman and Managing Director of state run REC Ltd, one of India’s largest power sector lenders in November 2020. He was earlier posted in the union power ministry as Additional Secretary.
