With Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh (IAS:1984:PB) set to retire in August, speculations are rife in power circles about his successor.
If the grapewine is to be believed Vini Mahajan (IAS:1987:PB) seems to be ahead in the race for the top job, and might supersede her senior K.B.S. Sidhu (IAS:1984:PB).
Sidhu was last week relieved of the post of financial commissioner (revenue).
Mahajan’s husband Dinkar Gupta (IPS:1987:PB) is the DGP of Punjab, and he has just been empanelled for a DG-level post at the Centre.
Currently an Additional Chief Secretary, governance reforms, Vini had served in the Prime Minister’s Office during Manmohan Singh regime.
Other officers known to be in the running for the chief secretary post are Sidhu and Viswajeet Khanna (IAS:1987:PB), who took over the charge of financial commissioner (revenue) from Sidhu.
