Punjab : Ex-DGP Saini to be grilled in abduction case on Sunday

Former Punjab police Chief Sumedh Singh Saini (Retd.IPS:1982:PB) will be questioned by Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday in connection with Multani disappearance case. Saini is an accused in the 1991 case where Balwant Singh Multani, a Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation (CITCO) employee, had disappeared, when Saini was SSP Chandigarh.

Multani was allegedly picked up by two officers after a terrorist attack on Saini, in which his four security men were killed. The police later claimed that Multani had escaped from the custody of Qadian police.

A case was registered under various Sections of the CrPC in Mohali on May 6, on the basis of a complaint filed by Multani’s brother. Saini was granted anticipatory bail by Mohali court on May 11, with directions to join investigations within seven days.

Former DSP Baldev Singh Saini, inspector Satvir Singh, sub-inspectors Har Sahai Sharma, Jagir Singh and Anoop Singh and ASI Kuldip Singh were also named in the case.
