Punjab cadre IAS officer Anindita Mitra (IAS:2007:PB) is set to take over as new Chandigarh municipal corporation commissioner. This comes after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs cleared her name to serve on deputation in the Chandigarh administration as municipal corporation commissioner.
The name of the officer was shared by the Punjab government and was subsequently placed before the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by PM Narendra Modi for final clearance.
The Punjab government had sent the names of three IAS officers in its panel for the post of MC commissioner including Mitra, 2008 batch IAS officer Amit Kumar and 2008 batch IAS officer Rajiv Prashar. The UT administration had selected Mitra and sent its recommendation to the Centre to succeed incumbent K K Yadav (IAS:2003:PB).
The post is reserved for Punjab cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.
