The Ministry of Education has appointed Prof Deepak Kumar Srivastava of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) as vice-chairperson of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Prof Srivastava earned his D Phil from the University of Allahabad and teaches at the School of Management and Labour Studies of the TISS, Mumbai campus. In December 2021, the ministry advertised the position. On August 29, the government published a gazette notification announcing Prof Srivastava’s appointment.
