Praveen Sinha (IPS:1988:GJ), Additional Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), is set to be appointed as acting chief of the premier investigative agency. He will hold the position of acting director till the time the High Power Committee appoints the next chief of the top investigating agency.
The tenure of current CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla (IPS:1983:MP) ends on February 3.
Rishi Kumar Shukla was appointed as CBI Director on February 4, 2019, after the then CBI Director Alok Verma (IPS:1979:AGMUT) was removed by the government following an ugly spat with his deputy Rakesh Asthana (IPS:1984:GJ).
The selection committee, comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, is expected to meet soon to decide the next CBI director.
