PM Modi launches SVAMITVA scheme, to benefit land owners in Rural areas.

The physical distribution of property cards, under the ambitious Govt.project, SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) was launched by PM Narendra Modi on October 11th,2020. SWAMITVA Cards are physical copies of property titles of the villagers’ homes and the surrounding areas they own (as opposed to the cultivated land). Under the SWAMITVA scheme, land parcels in rural areas were mapped using drones. This will help in revenue collection and ensure clarity on property rights in rural areas. Speaking on the occassion, he said nobody could eye the property of beneficiaries now as an accurate survey involving latest technology is being done.

The scheme’s launch on the birth anniversaries of Jayaprakash Narayan and social reformer Nanaji Deshmukh, two leaders who worked tirelessly for rural development, is important. SVAMITVA scheme is aimed at creating accurate land documentation, reducing property-related disputes and increasing liquidity of land parcels. This will help in revenue collection, obtaining loans and ensure clarity on property rights in rural areas.

The scheme’s pilot project is being implemented in as many as 763 villages across India, which includes 346 villages from Uttar Pradesh, 221 from Haryana, 100 from Maharashtra, 44 from Madhya Pradesh, 50 from Uttarakhand and two from Karnataka.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Yadav were also present on the occassion.
