Distinguished Scientist of the Department of Atomic Energy PA Suresh Babu on Thursday (April 23, 2026) assumed charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI), Kalpakkam. His tenure as CMD will be for a period of three years.
He is also serving as Director (HR) at the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).
BHAVINI is entrusted with the construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the 500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam, along with future Fast Breeder Reactor projects.
Mr Suresh Babu brings with him over 37 years of experience in the nuclear sector, having worked across Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR), Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) technologies and corporate HR functions.
He completed his BTech in Mechanical Engineering from Government Engineering College, Thrissur in 1988 and underwent nuclear training as part of the 32nd batch of the BARC Training School in 1989. After completing his training, he served at the Madras Atomic Power Station for 14 years in various roles.
Subsequently, he was associated with the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, where he held several key positions, including that of Station Director. In February 2022, he was appointed Director at NPCIL, a role he held until taking over his current assignment
