Over 2,400 IAS, IPS posts vacant: Govt.

The Union minister of state for personnel Jitendra Singh has revealed in Rajya Sabha that about 1510 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and 908 IPS posts across India are lying vacant.

Singh further submitted that AGMUT cadre has the highest, 116 IAS vacancies followed by 102 in Bihar and 100 in Maharashtra. As far as the IPS vacancies are concerned, Odisha has the second highest vacancies of 72
in IPS posts after Jammu and Kashmir which has 76 vaccant IPS posts. Odisha has about 58 positions for IAS laying vacant.

However, the union minster assured the Upper House that the government has increased the induction of IAS officers through Civil Services Examination (CSE) to 180 since 2012 (from 55 in 1998). Also, recruitment of IPS (direct recruit) has been increased to 200 from CSE-2020 from 150 earlier.
