Senior IPS officer Arun Kumar Sarangi (IPS:1990:OR) assumed the role of Director General of Police (DGP) in-charge. In the afternoon, Sarangi officially took over the responsibilities from the outgoing DGP, Sunil Bansal (IPS:1987:OR).
Arun Kumar Sarangi, presently serving as the Special DG of Police Training & Director, BPSPA, will hold the additional charge of DGP Odisha until the regular DGP assumes office, as indicated in the notification issued by the Department of Home on Saturday.
Notably, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is yet to provide the panel of three short-listed names for the state government’s consideration in appointing the police chief. Sources reveal that the UPSC has not been able to convene a meeting thus far to finalize the three names from the list submitted by the state government.
