New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (July 26, 2026) announced the formation of a high-powered task force headed by technology expert Nandan Nilekani to recommend reforms in India’s examination system.
The task force will suggest measures to make examinations more secure, transparent and technology-driven.
In a video message shared on Instagram, the Prime Minister said the country needs an examination system that people can trust. He said the panel will recommend comprehensive reforms to prevent paper leaks and strengthen the use of technology in examinations.
Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and former Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), will head the task force. He had earlier played a key role in developing the Aadhaar ecosystem and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
Sources said the panel will have experts from different fields. It will recommend structural as well as technological reforms, particularly for the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The proposed members include former ISRO Chairman S Somanath, former Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka, IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
The Prime Minister also said the government is taking several steps to curb examination-related irregularities. He said fast-track courts have already been announced for speedy trial of paper leak cases.
He also said the Centre will bring a stringent law in Parliament to deal with such offences.
The announcement came a day after former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned following widespread protests over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and the subsequent re-examination.
The task force is expected to recommend long-term reforms to restore public confidence in the country’s examination system.
