Nearly 80 serving and retired muslim bureaucrats have appealed to their community to act responsibly and cooperate with fellow citizens in the fight against the COVID-19. They said that the muslims should follow the directions of the health ministry and WHO to fight this deadly coronavirus.
Senior IPS officers Asif Jalal (Himachal Pradesh cadre), Najmul Hoda (Tamil Nadu cadre) and Mohammad Shayin, IAS (Haryana cadre), initiated this appeal which was endorsed by 77 other civil servants. The appeal came after members of the community in Indore pelted stones on the health workers and clashed with the police.
Referring to reports that linked 25% corona positive cases to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation held in Delhi, they invoked Islamic scriptures and said: “Suicide and courting danger and disease by one’s rash and negligent act is haram or forbidden”. They added that Prophet Mohammed also directed his followers to prevent spread of epidemic and to protect one self.
They urged muslims to follow public health guidelines, observe social distancing and pray at home.
