In a significant development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Saturday (11.01.2025) approved the repatriation of Prashant Kumar Singh (IAS:1993:MN), currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MoNRE), to his parent cadre in Manipur, following a request from the state government.
This move indicates Singh is likely to be named the next Chief Secretary. A formal announcement is expected soon, as the incumbent, Vineet Joshi (IAS:1992:MN), transferred to Delhi on December 25 as Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has yet to relinquish his charge as Chief Secretary. Reports suggest Joshi was awaiting the announcement of his successor.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) order stated, ” The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved repatriation of Shri Prashant Kumar Singh, IAS (MN:93), Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to his parent cadre on the request on Government of Manipur.”
