MEA teams to coordinate return of the stranded Indians from abroad

As the government embarks upon one of the biggest repatriations of Indians from abroad, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has formed various teams to coordinate with the state governments and Indian missions abroad. These teams are led by 16 diplomats of additional secretary and joint secretary ranks.

Beginning Thurseday, 64 flights are expected to bring about 15,000 national back to India.

Ten Joint secretary rank officers will coordinate with the country/region, from where these Indians are returning.According to sources, P Harish, additional secretary (states & economic diplomacy) in MEA, has been put in-charge of Andhra Pradesh;Neena Malhotra, additional secretary (Indo-Pacific), will be in-charge of Delhi-Haryana; Dinesh Patnaik, additional secretary and DG-ICCR, will be in-charge of Gujarat; Nagma Malik, additional secretary (Africa) will be in-charge of Karnataka; Vikram Doraiswami, additional secretary (international organisations), will be in-charge of Kerala and, Suresh Reddy, additional secretary (Europe), will be in-charge of Maharashtra, among others.

Air India has fixed the repatriation charges as follows-

London-Delhi Rs 50,000.

Dhaka-Delhi Rs 12,000

Chicago-Delhi Rs 100,000 approx.

San Francisco-Delhi Rs 100,000 approx.

Newark-Mumbai Rs 100,000 approx.
