K Shanmugam appointed Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu

K Shanmugam (IAS:1985:TN) has been appointed as Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu. He will take charge on July 1. An order to this effect issued by chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan on Saturday, who is retiring from service on June 30.

K Shanmugam held various posts in the span of over three decades of public service. The posts he held include Deputy Commissioner of Commercial taxes, Director of Sericulture, Collector of Sivaganga and Pudukkottai districts, Director of Rural Development, CMD of TN Civil Supplies Corporation and Secretary to the Food Department.

Presently, he is finance secretary and he was appointed to this post in the DMK regime in May 2010, the post which he held continuously for nine years since then.
