In a telling development that underscores the ongoing tussle between the Centre and the Jharkhand government, it has come to light that state DGP Anurag Gupta (IPS:1989:JH) is not drawing a salary after his retirement on April 30, 2025, even as he continues to serve in the post.

As per reports, the Principal Accountant General (PAG) office has given him a zero-salary slip for May. This means, officially, he is not being treated as a serving officer anymore, and won’t get paid from the state treasury.

This is not a new controversy. It is part of the ongoing disagreement between the Centre and the state government. The Centre says Gupta has retired and cannot continue as DGP. But the state government says he was appointed for a fixed two-year term, and as per the Supreme Court’s guidelines, he can continue even after turning 60.

The matter has now taken a serious turn, as the CAG office has stopped issuing his pay slip, which is needed to release his salary. So, even though he is working, he is not getting paid.

The state is standing by its decision, but it’s clear that this issue is far from over.
