Senior Karnataka cadre IAS officer Harsh Gupta (IAS:1997:KN), who had remained without a posting for over a month after being shifted from the Health and Family Welfare Department, has finally been assigned a new role by the Karnataka government.

According to a government notification, Gupta has been appointed as Chairman of the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal, Bengaluru, with immediate effect. He replaces Smt. Thulasi Maddineni, who was holding concurrent charge of the post.

The appointment comes more than a month after Gupta was transferred from the post of Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department in April without being given an immediate posting. The move had drawn attention on social media, particularly as it marked his 30th transfer in a 28-year bureaucratic career.

Many had highlighted Gupta’s work in the health department, where he was credited with introducing reforms in doctors’ transfer systems and counselling-based mechanisms.

Along with Gupta’s appointment, the state government also transferred three other IAS officers. Nagaraja NM (IAS:2016:KN) has been posted as Ombudsman, Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, Bengaluru; Bhanwar Singh Meena (IAS:2017:KN) has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Chikkamagaluru; and Rahul Sharanappa Sankanur (IAS:2019:KN) has been posted as CEO, Zilla Panchayat, Kalaburagi.
