Senior IPS officer Harinath Mishra (IPS:1990:KL) was on Friday (29.11.2024) appointed Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat. He will replace Swagat Das (IPS:1987:CG), who is set to retire on November 30, 2024.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), ” The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved appointment of Shri Harinath Mishra, IPS (KL:1990), Special Director, Intelligence Bureau to the post of Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat vice Shri Swagat Das, IPS (CG.1987) upon his superannuation on 30.11.2024. “
Mishra is currently Special Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB).
The Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat is the administrative head of the Special Protection Group (SPG) that provides security to the prime minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at his official residence.
The SPG also provides security to any former prime minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at the residence allotted to him for a period of five years from the date he ceases to hold the office of the prime minister.
