In an important development for the Bihar bureaucracy, seven senior IAS officers have been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the multi-crore tender scam. Among them, one is an Additional Chief Secretary-rank officer, two Principal Secretary-rank officers and three Secretary-rank officers. One has already retired and details of another officer are unspecified.
The ED is examining alleged links of these officers with jailed contractor Rishu Ranjan Sinha alias Rishu Shree. Sources say Rishu Shree’s call details allegedly revealed his conversations and chats with these officials.
The summoning of these officers is said to be a fall out of observations made by the Patna High Court in a case involving Rishu Shree on October 15. The HC had expressed apprehension that some officials might have been ‘protected’ while others were being targeted.
The case is linked to a company owned by contractor Rishu Ranjan Sinha, accused of irregularities in the government tenders and of money laundering.
The ED is investigating the alleged links between government officials and the contractor and the role they allegedly played in the tender process.
