In a significant development, Satyabrat Kumar (IRS-C&IT:2004), Special Director in the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has been repatriated to his parent cadre-the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
According to an order issued on 30 May, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) curtailed his extended tenure in the ED to facilitate his repatriation.
Kumar, who joined the ED in 2013 as Joint Director in Mumbai, has handled several high-profile cases during his stint. He was later posted as Special Director of Enforcement (SDE) for the agency’s eastern region in Kolkata in September 2024, following a long tenure in Mumbai.
Notably, he has spent about 12 years in the federal probe agency, making him one of the longest-serving officers on deputation. His tenure was earlier extended in 2022 to continue in the ED till October 2026, but the latest order ends his stint more than a year early.
