The foreign deputation tenure of Debjani Chakrabarti (IAS:2002:OR) as Minister (Economic & Commerce) in the Embassy of India, Tokyo, Japan, has been extended by eight months.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday (June 23, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Department of Economic Affairs to extend her tenure for a period of eight months beyond August 28, 2026 and up to April 28, 2027, or till the new incumbent takes over charge of the post, whichever is earlier.
Notably, Chakrabarti had assumed charge of the post at Joint Secretary level on August 28, 2023 for a tenure of three years.
