With no option left, the Union government finally reinstated the Chhattisgarh Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Gurjinder Pal Singh (IPS:1994:CG). He was compulsorily retired last year after being charged for corruption, extortion and sedition.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the order on Thursday saying: “…..Shri Gurjinder Pal Singh, IPS is hereby reinstated in service with effect from 20.07.2023. It is accordingly ordered”.
The central government’s decision came after the Supreme Court dismissed its plea against the setting aside of an order of compulsory retirement against him on Tuesday. The IPS officer faced allegations of corruption, extortion, and sedition, after which he was compulsorily retired from service by the Union government.
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti passed the order while hearing the plea of the Union government challenging a Delhi High Court order, which had upheld the decision of the Central Administrative Tribunal setting aside Singh’s compulsory retirement.
The Chief Secretary has been asked to take necessary action in this regard. With the reinstatement, Singh will soon be getting a new posting in the state.
