In the latest late-night bureaucratic reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh, in which seventeen IAS officers have been transferred, the most talked-about news is the denial of another extension to former Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh (IAS:2005:SK).

The appointment of Sangeeta Singh (IAS:2009:UP) as the new Divisional Commissioner of Moradabad puts an end to all speculations over Anjaneya’s UP deputation.

While it’s common for an officer’s tenure to be extended by a year or two, the denial of another extension after seven extensions in a row has finally paved the way for Anjaneya Kumar Singh’s departure from UP. He will now be required to return to his original Sikkim cadre.

He was brought to UP in 2015 by the then Samajwadi Party (SP) government for a period of five years and was given the first extension by the Yogi Adityanath govt in 2020.

The IAS officer shot into prominence during his tenure as Rampur District Magistrate for taking several actions against SP stalwart Azam Khan. Whether it was the Jauhar University land issue or the controversy surrounding election rules, Anjaneya Singh remained in the news throughout these events. Later he was promoted and posted as Moradabad Commissioner.

Anjaneya’s tenure kept ending, but his continuity in the state remained intact for 11 long years as he was granted seven consecutive extensions.

During this time, he continued to serve as the Moradabad Divisional Commissioner for more than five and a half years, which is a record in UP’s bureaucratic history. However, this time, things didn’t progress. The eighth extension was denied. After completing his tenure, he went on leave.

Now, he has been relieved to his original cadre state, ending his long tenure in Uttar Pradesh.
