NLC India Limited enters Power Purchase Agreement with GRIDCO Limited for 800MW

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has successfully signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with GRIDCO Limited in Bhubaneswar. This significant agreement encompasses 400MW in Stage-1 and 400 MW in Stage-2 of NLCIL’s proposed Neyveli Talabira Super Critical Thermal Power Station (NTTPP) in the state of Odisha. With the formalization of this agreement, NLCIL has secured the full 2400 MW capacity of Neyveli Talabira Super Critical Thermal Power Station Stage-I.

The signing ceremony, attended by key stakeholders, including M. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Ltd, Shri Trilochan Panda, Managing Director of GRIDCO Limited, and Gagan Bihari Swain, Director (F&CA) of GRIDCO Limited, witnessed the official signing of the Power Purchase Agreement. Representing NLCIL was M Venkatachalam, Director/Power, and representing GRIDCO Limited was Umakanta Sahoo, Director (T&BD).

NLCIL has previously entered similar agreements with Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Pondicherry, securing 1,500 MW, 400 MW, and 100 MW of power supply, respectively, from Neyveli Talabira Super Critical Thermal Power Station Stage-I. In this latest development, NLCIL has tied up an additional 400 MW of capacity with GRIDCO Odisha as part of the second phase of the 1×800 MW capacity of NTTPP.

Rajasthan: Senior IAS officer Veenu Gupta appointed Chairman of RERA

The Rajasthan government on Thursday (28.09.2023) appointed senior IAS officer Veenu Gupta (IAS:1987:RJ) as the Chairman of the Rajasthan Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). Her tenure in this crucial role will span 5 years. Currently serving as the Additional Chief Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Veenu Gupta is set to retire from service later this year.

In accordance with a government order, Veenu Gupta’s term as RERA Chairman is set at 5 years or until she reaches the age of 65, whichever comes earlier. This appointment comes following the vacancy left by the departure of NC Goyal (Retd.1982:RJ), who stepped down from the post of RERA Chairman in April.

20 Bihar IAS officers enlisted as observers for five-state assembly elections

The Election Commission has enlisted the assistance of 20 IAS officers hailing from Bihar cadre to serve as observers during the upcoming Assembly elections in five states: Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

These selected bureaucrats encompass a range of ranks, spanning from junior officers such as settlement officers to those holding esteemed positions such as special secretary, director, joint secretary, secretary, and principal secretary.

According to reports, the Election Commission communicated with Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer, H.R. Srinivasa, on September 26, requesting that he ensure the timely release of these 20 designated IAS officers to participate in a crucial meeting and receive essential briefings scheduled to take place at the Constitution Club of India in Delhi on October 6.

In a written correspondence, the Election Commission emphasized that any failure of the called officers to attend the assigned duties would be viewed with utmost seriousness, potentially resulting in disciplinary actions against them. The general administration department has issued a notification instructing the respective IAS officers to comply with the directives of the Election Commission.

These officers, drawn from various services, are deployed as general, police, and expenditure observers within the constituencies scheduled for elections. Their responsibilities extend to monitoring activities during the campaign and election processes, focusing on matters within their jurisdiction, and subsequently submitting comprehensive reports to the Election Commission.

Punjab: Five IPS officers shifted, MS Chhina posted as ADGP, Patiala Range

The Punjab government on Thursday (28.09.2023) issued transfer and posting orders for five Indian Police Service (IPS) officers with the aim of improving the administration of the state’s police force.

The names of the officers and their postings are as follows:

  1. Mukhwinder Singh Chhina (IPS:2001:PB) has been posted as ADGP (Additional Director General of Police), Patiala Range, Patiala.
  2. Gursharan Singh Sandhu (IPS:2001:PB), who was serving as IGP (Inspector General of Police), Crime, BoI Punjab, with additional charge of IGP Provisioning, Punjab, Chandigarh, has been transferred and posted as IGP, Faridkot Range, Faridkot.
  3. Dhanpreet Kaur (IPS:2006:PB), who was DIG Provisioning, Punjab, Chandigarh, has been transferred and posted as DIG Ludhiana Range, Ludhiana.
  4. Bhagirath Singh Meena (IPS:2013:PB), who was AIG, Personnel-III, Punjab, Chandigarh, has been transferred and posted as SSP, Sri Muktsar Sahib.
  5. Ashwani Kapoor (IPS:2010:PB), who was AIG SSOC, SAS Nagar, has been transferred and posted as SSP, Tarn Taran.

CBIC: 147 Principal Commissioner/Commissioner rank officers shifted

In a significant restructuring of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers orchestrated by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, Department of Revenue, a total of 147 officers have been reallocated to assume new responsibilities in the capacities of Principal Commissioner/Commissioner of Customs and Indirect Taxes across various Regions and Zones.

They are ;

Senior IPS officer Satish Golcha promoted to DGP rank

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Satish Golcha (IPS:1992:AGMUT) has been promoted promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). This noteworthy promotion was announced through an official order from the Ministry of Home Affairs. It comes as a result of the thorough assessment and recommendations put forth by the Screening Committee, subsequently gaining the approval of the competent authority. With this promotion, Golcha now assumes the rank of DGP, corresponding to Level-16 in the Pay Matrix, effective from the date he took charge of his new responsibilities.

As of now, Satish Golcha remains actively posted within the AGMUT cadre.

MHA elevates two senior IAS officers to Apex Scale in AGMUT cadre

The Ministry of Home Affairs has elevated two seasoned Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to the Apex Scale. This promotion has been carried out in accordance with the recommendations made by the Screening Committee and subsequently approved by the competent authority. These officers have been promoted to the Apex Scale, corresponding to Level-17 in the pay matrix, with their promotion taking effect from the date they assumed their new responsibilities.

The two officers who have received this promotion are:

  1. Bipul Pathak (IAS:1992:AGMUT)
  2. Ashwani Kumar (IAS:1992:AGMUT)

Presently, these two IAS officers are posted in the cadre.

SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal transferred to parent cadre Manipur

Senior Indian Police Service officer Rakesh Balwal (IPS:2012:MN), currently serving as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Srinagar, has undergone a premature transfer back to his home cadre in Manipur, which has witnessed heightened tensions in recent months. This transfer comes as per an official directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Balwal assumed the position of SSP Srinagar in late 2021.

Prior to his assignment in Srinagar, Balwal spent three and a half years on deputation with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as a Superintendent of Police. During his tenure with the NIA, he played a pivotal role as a member of the investigative team tasked with probing the tragic 2019 Pulwama terror attack, which resulted in the loss of 40 lives among the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

Eleven Additional Judges of Punjab & Haryana HC made Permanent Judges

The Union government on Wednesday (27.09.2023) notified the appointment of eleven Additional Judges of the Punjab & Haryana High Court as Permanent Judges of that High Court with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.

These eleven judges are ;

  2. Justice Sanjay Vashisth
  3. Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya
  4. Justice Namit Kumar
  5. Justice Harkesh Manuja
  6. Justice Aman Chaudhary

The Supreme Court Collegium had approved the proposal for appointing the eleven Additional Judges of Punjab & Haryana High Court as Permanent Judges of the Court vide notification dated September 14, 2023.
