Modi govt enhances tenure for Central Government Employee holding elective office

The government officials will now be permitted to hold elective office in any body for a period of two terms or five years, whichever is earlier. Earlier, this tenure was limited to four years.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has now modified rules to this effect. However, if an employee wants to contest an election in such a body, prior sanction of government would have to be taken.

HC issue notice to IAS officer, others over land mutation

The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiyarpur, IAS officer Apneet Riyait and her husband Harinder Singh Mann, who is a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), in a land mutation case in Mansa. They have to respond by April 17. A rice sheller had alleged that the then DC of Mansa, Apneet Riyait, and her DSP husband, in connivance with revenue officials, got the the mutation of their land changed, ignoring the existence of the rice sheller building. According to the petitioner the IAS officer’s in-laws wanted a partnership in the rice sheller unit and resorted to these tactics when she did not oblige. The court has stayed further proceedings in the matter, and has asked chief secretary, Punjab to look into the case.

Power Ministry asks government to rethink Disinvestment of power PSUs

Government’s plan to disinvest in power PSUs has created anxiety in the Ministry of Power. The ministry has conveyed that cutting down Centre’s stake in NTPC Ltd, PFC (Power Finance Corporation) and Power Grid to below 51 per cent, will have its own disadvantages.

These PSUs fear that the investors, including foreign lenders would not like this move. These power entities will be obliged to compensate bondholders if the government stake goes below 51 per cent. The government currently owns 54.14 per cent in NTPC, 54.96 per cent in Power Grid and 55.99 per cent in PFC.
