ED attaches ₹3.88 cr worth assets of IRS officer in corruption case

Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached properties worth ₹3.88 crores belonging to a senior Income Tax official Neeraj Singh and his associates in a corruption case.

Indian Revenue Services officer Singh, was the Additional Director of Income Tax (Investigation) in Kolkata when police lodged an FIR was against him in 2017.

“…the accused, by wrongfully using his power and capacity of a public servant, obtained huge amounts of money through illegal gratification…” a press note released by ED states.

“The investigation revealed that Neeraj Singh kept Govind Agarwal as his frontman and laundered the obtained proceeds of crime through many bank accounts of various companies,” ED said.

The attached assets include a residential property in mumbai worth ₹3.15 crore and bank balances of ₹73.16 lakhs.

“For acquiring this property, Neeraj Singh routed his ill-gotten money through several companies floated by Govind Agarwal and finally placed them into the accounts of his relative in the guise of loans extended from a company. Singh was also found to possess and use bank accounts of his relatives, which were utilised for acquiring proceeds of crime,” ED has stated.

After stints at Railways and Air India, Ashwani Lohani joins GMR Group

Former chairman of the Railway Board and two-time Chief of Air India, Ashwani Lohani (IRSME:1980), has joined GMR Group’s Services Business (which includes railways) as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This move of the company, come amid the process of expanding its wings in the Railways sector by showing interests in the private train project, station redevelopment plans and dedicated freight corridors (DFC).

He retired 19 months ago, from the post of Chairman of the Railway Board. In August 2015 that Lohani took charge of Air India and was termed the turnaround man of the national carrier.

After that, he headed the Indian railways from August 2017 to December 2018. He pushed infrastructure works, which eventually brought down the number of accidents to zero now.

In February 2019, he was back again in Air India for a one-year term.

In its 2018-19 annual report, GMR highlighted that it is betting big on the planned third dedicated East Coast Freight Corridor between Kharagpur and Vijaywada costing more than Rs 50,000 Crore funded by the World Bank.

Early this month, GMR was shortlisted for the redevelopment of four railway stations – Nagpur, Gwalior, Amritsar and Sabarmati – on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Kerala IAS who jumped quarantine reinstated as Sub-Collector

Kerala government has quietly re-instated IAS Anupam Mishra, who was suspended by the government for violating the quarantine rules. He has been posted as the new Sub-Collector of Alappuzha.

In his order the Chief Secretary Vishwas Mehta said the 2016-batch IAS officer was re-inducted as this was his first lapse.

“Anupam Mishra is a young officer and this is his first mistake. Government has decided not to take further action by giving an oral warning not to repeat such mistakes. Anupam Mishra is reinstated in service,” says the order issued recently.

Anupam Mishra had gone to Singapore and Indonesia for his honeymoon and re-joined duty on March 19. The Kollam Collector had directed him to self-quarantine at his official residence. However, Mishra left for Bengaluru the same day without informing the government.

Gujarat : Three IPS officers promoted to DGP rank

The Gujarat government on Friday promoted three IPS officers from the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP).

The officers are ;

  2. Vinod Mall (IPS: 1986:GJ)
  3. Sanajay Srivastava (IPS:1987:GJ)

Presently, Keshav Kumar and Vinod Mall are posted as Special Director, Anti Corruption Bureau and ADG, Police Reforms in the state respectively while Sanjay Srivastava is ADG, CID (Crime and Railways).
