Bihar transfers 16 senior IPS officers; Sudhanshu Kumar appointed ADGP Law & Order

The Bihar government on Sunday (May 10, 2026) enacted major changes in the state police administration by issuing transfer and posting orders for 16 senior IPS officers. Among the key decisions, two officers have been assigned Director General of Police (DGP) rank in the departments where they were already serving.

With law and order emerging as a major focus area for the new government, senior IPS officer Sudhanshu Kumar (IPS:1996:BH) has been appointed as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law & Order.

The names of the officers and their postings are as follows;

1. Paresh Saxena (IPS:1994:BH), ADGP-cum-Additional Commissioner, Civil Defence with additional charge of DGP-cum-Commissioner, Civil Defence, has been promoted and posted as DGP-cum-Commissioner, Civil Defence.
2. Nirmal Kumar Azad (IAS:1994:BH), ADGP, Technical Services and Communication, has been promoted and posted as DGP, Technical Services and Communication.
3. Sudhanshu Kumar (IPS:1996:BH), ADGP, SCRB and Modernisation, with additional charge of ADGP, Traffic, has been transferred and posted as ADGP, Law & Order with additional charge of ADGP, Traffic.
4. Amit Kumar Jain (IPS:1996:BH), ADGP, Prohibition & State Narcotics Control Bureau with additional charge of ADGP (Weaker Section), CID has been transferred as ADGP, EOW.
5. Nayyar Hasnain Khan (IPS:1996:BH), ADGP, EOW, has been transferred and posted as ADGP, Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP).
6. Dr. Kamal Kishore Singh (IPS:1996:BH), ADGP, (Budget/Appeal/Welfare) with additional charge of ADGP, Railway, has been transferred as ADGP, Railway.
7. Ajitabh Kumar (IPS:1997:BH), ADGP, Provisioning, has been transferred and posted as ADGP, SCRB & Modernisation.
8. Sanjay Singh (IPS:1997:BH), ADGP, Training, has been transferred as ADGP, (Budget/Appeal/Welfare) with additional charge of ADGP, Security.
9. Amit Lodha (IPS:1998:BH), ADGP, SCRB, has been transferred as ADGP, Technical Services and Communication.
10. Amrit Raj (IPS:1998:BH), ADGP, Security, has been transferred and posted as ADGP, Cyber Crime & Security Unit.
11. Kassey Suhita Anupam (IPS:1998:BH), Special Secretary, Home (Special Branch), has been transferred as ADGP (Weaker Section), CID.
12. Vikash Vaibhav (IPS:2003:BH), Adviser, Bihar State Planning Board, has been transferred as IGP, Magadh Range, Gayaji.
13. Kshtranil Singh (IPS:2005:BH), IGP, Magadh Range, Gayaji, has been transferred as Special Secretary, Home (Special Branch).
14. P Kannan (IPS:2005:BH), IGP, Railway with additional charge of IG, Modernisation, has been posted as IGP, Provisioning with additional charge of IG, Modernisation.
15. Ranjit Kumar Mishra (IPS:2007:BH), IGP, Cyber Crime & Security Unit, has been transferred and posted as IGP, CID with additional charge of IG, Cyber Crime & Security Unit.
16. Sanjay Kumar (IPS:2008:BH), IGP, Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), has been transferred and posted as IGP, Special Branch.
