New Delhi: Atul Kumar Thakur (IPS:2008:AGMUT), presently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been appointed as Joint Director, CBI.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (July 13, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment as Joint Director, CBI, from the date of assumption of charge of the post, for an overall central deputation tenure of seven years up to November 24, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Notably, Thakur was inducted into the CBI as Superintendent of Police (SP) in November 2021 for a period of four years. In June 2022, he was elevated to the rank of DIG in the agency.
