Education and Entry into the IAS
Jitendra Srivastava completed his Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Economics from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. He subsequently earned an MBA in Finance from Cochin University of Science and Technology.
He joined the Indian Administrative Service on September 4, 2000, after clearing the Union Public Service Commission’s Civil Services Examination. He was allocated the Bihar cadre and went on to serve in several administrative departments at both the state and central levels.

Administrative Career in Bihar
During his tenure in Bihar, Srivastava held responsibilities across public health, government administration and infrastructure-related departments. His assignments included leadership roles in the National Rural Health Mission and the state’s Health and Family Welfare Department.
He later served as Divisional Commissioner of Gaya Division and as Secretary in the Public Health Engineering Department. These assignments involved administrative coordination and oversight of government programmes within their respective areas of responsibility.
Srivastava also served as Secretary in the Bihar government’s Home Department. His state-level experience covered several areas of public administration, including health services, infrastructure and departmental governance.
Central Government Deputation
Srivastava moved to the Central Government on deputation in January 2023, taking up the post of Joint Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Srivastava’s appointment as Chairman and Managing Director of REC Limited on April 18, 2025. He assumed charge on April 22, 2025, in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary to the Government of India.
REC Limited is a public-sector financial institution under the Ministry of Power. It provides financing for power-sector projects and has expanded its lending activities to cover other infrastructure segments, including renewable energy and related development projects.
As CMD, Srivastava leads the company’s executive management and oversees its strategic and operational responsibilities. He also serves as the ex-officio Chairman of the board of REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited.
