New Delhi: Senior diplomat Hansraj Singh Verma (IFS:2008) has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Cuba, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.
Verma is currently serving as the Consul General of India at the Consulate General of India in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and is expected to take up his new assignment in Havana shortly.
His appointment comes after T Armstrong Changsan (IFS:1997), the outgoing Ambassador of India to Cuba, was appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Armenia, according to an official statement issued by the MEA on August 5, 2026.
Before his current assignment in Sao Paulo, Verma served as Counsellor-in-Charge for Political and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of India in Buenos Aires.
Verma has served in various Indian Missions as well as at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. His previous assignments include the Assistant High Commission of India in Chittagong, Embassy of India in Paris, High Commission of India in Accra, Consulate General of India in Frankfurt, High Commission of India in Maputo, Embassy of India in Lisbon and Embassy of India in Buenos Aires.
He served as Deputy Chief of Protocol at MEA Headquarters from March 2019 to July 2021. During his tenure at headquarters, he also handled subjects including passports and visas, extradition, the United Nations, protocol and administration.
