Supreme Court defers Odisha DGP appointment case hearing to September 22

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday (September 17, 2026) postponed the hearing in the case concerning the appointment of the next Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha to September 22.

The matter relates to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the selection process followed for appointment of the Odisha DGP. The petition has raised concerns over the Odisha government’s handling of the process, including the inclusion of additional IPS officers in the list forwarded to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The Supreme Court had earlier considered the matter in the context of the selection process and the report submitted by Amicus Curiae Raju Ramachandran.

The case will now come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on September 22, 2026.
