A senior Mizoram cadre IPS officer has been reported missing, with the state police launching a search for him. The IPS officer, identified as Shankar Chowdhary (IPS:2011:AGMUT), is currently posted as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the police headquarters in Aizawl.

Originally from Jharkhand, Chowdhary had taken leave for over 105 days since April till July 15 this year, but he has yet to report. According to a police official, the state police department does not have any idea of his whereabouts, and an inquiry is being conducted.

The officer also added that an order to post Chowdhary as DIG (Training) had already been issued, but he had not joined his assignment as well.

A senior police officer in the state said despite being allocated the DIG post, Chowdhary has reportedly not joined the post to date due to his prolonged absence.

The IPS officer had earlier been accused by the Delhi police of abducting a foreign national while serving as SP Narcotics.

Chowdhary has been posted in Mizoram since July 25, 2023, and was shifted as OSD in headquarters on October 28 last year after Delhi police registered criminal cases against him.
