Karnataka IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar (IAS:2015:KN), who was reported to be untraceable for the last two days, has finally been traced to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh. Gangwar had gone there due to an emergency condition of his ailing father.
According to reports, the IAS officer, currently posted as Director of MSME, boarded a last-minute Indigo flight from Bengaluru to Delhi on August 22, 2026 at 3 pm after booking ticket by the HDFC card. But he became unreachable after his arrival in Delhi. As his mobile phone was continuously switched off, his family members and colleagues failed to trace him. It sparking off a panic.
Speculations began to fly thick and fast linking his sudden disappearance to recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on his premises in Bengaluru and Bareilly in a recruitment scam case. Gangwar was serving as the Controller of Examinations at the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) when the alleged scam took place.
But the cloud of uncertainty cleared after a clarification came from the Karnataka government, with state Home Minister Priyank Kharge dismissing the disappearance rumors and confirming that he had spoken to Gangwar. Karge added that the IAS officer traveled urgently to his hometown due to his father’s health emergency.
Kharge also pointed out that the officer planned to complete formal leave paperwork after returning from him hometown as there was an emergency.
