In an unprecedented administrative decision, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has transferred six senior Central GST (CGST) officers from the Chennai Zone with immediate effect. They have been attached to the New Delhi-based CBIC headquarters as Officers on Special Duty (OSDs).
The Board issued a notification to this effect on August 10. The officers transferred were part of top-level management and field officials, holding the ranks of Principal Chief Commissioner, Principal Commissioner, Additional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.
The officers transferred are Madan Mohan Singh (IRS C&IT: 1991), Principal Chief Commissioner, Chennai CGST; Pradip Kumar Suman (IRS C&IT: 1995), Principal Commissioner, CGST Chennai North; Shivaprakash Veeresh Baddi, Additional Commissioner, CGST Chennai North; B. Lokanath Reddy, Additional Commissioner, CGST Chennai Appeals-II; M Pandaram, Deputy Commissioner, CGST Chennai North; and N Sudhakar, Deputy Commissioner, CGST Chennai North.
Insiders say transferring so many senior officers in one go is a rare development.
This unusual move has fueled speculation in the bureaucratic circles about future development in the coming days, as, according to insiders, standard CBIC cadre rules lack explicit provisions for placing senior officers as OSDs at the Board.
