New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of three IPS officers, all currently serving as DIGs in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), as Joint Directors in the agency.
The appointments were approved on August 10, 2026, and are against three Joint Director-level vacancies arising from the completion of tenure or superannuation of the incumbent officers.
Akhilesh Kumar Singh
Akhilesh Kumar Singh (IPS:2008:MH), presently serving as DIG in the CBI, has been appointed as Joint Director in the CBI vice Sudha Singh (IPS:2006:OD).
His appointment will take effect from the date of assumption of charge and will continue up to July 22, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Akhilesh Kumar Singh has been serving in the CBI since July 23, 2019, when he joined the agency as an SP for an initial five-year tenure. He was elevated to the rank of DIG in June 2022 and continued in the position after his tenure was extended.
He will fill the vacancy caused by the completion of Sudha Singh’s tenure as Joint Director in the CBI on July 28, 2026.
Satya Veer Singh
Satya Veer Singh (IPS:2008:BH), also serving as DIG in the CBI, has been appointed as Joint Director in the agency vice Ashwin Shenvi (IPS:2006:HY).
His appointment will take effect from the date of assumption of charge or September 7, 2026, whichever is applicable, and will continue up to March 5, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Satya Veer Singh has been serving as DIG in the CBI since March 5, 2023. His appointment in the agency was initially made for a five-year tenure.
He will succeed Ashwin Shenvi, who has been serving in the CBI since July 2020 and whose six-year tenure is due to end on August 6, 2026.
Anish Gupta
Anish Gupta (IPS:2008:JH), DIG in the CBI, has been appointed as Joint Director in the agency vice Ramnish Geer, Joint Director, CBI, following the latter’s superannuation.
Anish Gupta’s appointment will take effect from the date of assumption of charge on or after October 1, 2026, and will continue up to February 29, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Gupta has been serving in the CBI as DIG since June 2022.
Ramnish Geer, a 1994-batch CBI cadre officer, is due to superannuate, resulting in the vacancy against which Gupta has been appointed.
