SC Collegium recommends Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Justice Mishra is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The recommendation was made at a meeting of the Supreme Court Collegium held on August 6, 2026.

Justice Mishra completed his B.A. (Honours) in Economics from Kirori Mal College and obtained his LL.B. from the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi.

He enrolled as an advocate on May 8, 1993, and primarily practised on the civil, constitutional and service law sides. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2013.

Justice Mishra was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on February 3, 2014, and was made a permanent judge on February 1, 2016.

He served at the Allahabad High Court until July 20, 2025, before being transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He assumed charge there on July 21, 2025.

Following the elevation of then Chief Justice Sheel Nagu to the Supreme Court, Justice Mishra was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court with effect from June 1, 2026.
