Centre repatriates Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal from BSF to enable joining as Tamil Nadu DGP

Centre has repatriated IPS officer Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal from BSF to enable his joining as Tamil Nadu DGP.

Days after being appointed as Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force in Tamil Nadu, senior IPS officer Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal (IPS:1994:TN) has been repatriated from the Border Security Force (BSF) to his parent cadre.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday (June 2, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for repatriation of Aggarwal, who was serving as Special Director General in BSF, to Tamil Nadu cadre with immediate effect.

The move clears the way for Aggarwal to assume charge as DGP and Head of Police Force in Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu government had appointed Aggarwal to the top police post on May 29, 2026.
