In a key development, the Centre has extended the deputation tenure of Anurag Garg (IPS:1993:HP) as Director General (DG) of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) till July 31, 2027.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday (May 21, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal to extend his deputation tenure beyond May 23, 2026, up to July 31, 2027, which is also the date of his superannuation.

Anurag Garg was appointed as Director General of NCB on September 17, 2024, for a tenure up to May 23, 2026. He had replaced Anish Dayal Singh (IPS:1988:MH), who was then holding additional charge of the post along with his responsibilities as DG, CRPF.
