IPS officer Sadanand S Date takes charge as Executive Director at SEBI, heading the Investigations Department in Mumbai.

IPS officer Sadanand S Date (IPS:2007:UK) has taken charge as Executive Director at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in Mumbai. He assumed charge on March 4, 2026. He will handle the Investigations Department at the market regulator.

Before joining SEBI, he was serving in the parent cadre Uttarakhand. He was posted as Inspector General (Headquarters) and Director of Traffic.

Date returned to his parent cadre in August 2025 after serving in the Central Bureau of Investigation for seven years. He had joined the CBI in 2018.

On February 17, 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs relaxed the IPS Tenure Policy for him. He was given exemption from the three-year cooling-off rule. This cleared the way for his new assignment.

During his time in the CBI, he handled several important roles. He worked as Superintendent of Police in the Anti-Corruption Branch and the Bank Securities and Fraud Cell. In Mumbai, he led different CBI units. These included the Economic Offences Branch, Special Crime Branch, Special Task Branch and the Anti-Corruption Branch. He supervised many major investigations.

Earlier in Uttarakhand Police, he served as Superintendent of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police in several districts. These included Uttarkashi, Nainital, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun.
