The Himachal Pradesh government on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) appointed Shyam Bhagat Negi (IPS:1990:HP) as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department.
Negi recently returned to the state cadre in July 2025 after completing his central deputation in New Delhi, where he served as Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat.
It was widely speculated that the senior-most IPS officer of the state would be appointed as the next Director General of Police (DGP). However, the government has instead assigned him the role of ACS.
In the same order, the government cancelled the appointment of Abhishek Trivedi (IPS:1996:HP) as Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment. Trivedi’s appointment was made just last week by the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government.
The notification in this regard was issued by Acting Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta.
