After IAS officers’ infighting, bickering begins among IPS officers in Kerala. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) – Intelligence P Vijayan (IPS:1999:KL) has reportedly asked for action against ADGP-armed police battalions M R Ajithkumar (IPS:1995:KL) for giving a defamatory statement about Vijayan that he had links with gold smuggling rackets.
Vijayan is said to have submitted a representation in this regard to the state police chief, who has reportedly forwarded it to the home department.
Ajithkumar has been in the midst of controversies facing inquiry for various allegations. In a statement he mentioned that Vijayan had links with gold smuggling rackets. He was earlier caught up in a row over meeting RSS senior leaders that subsequently resulted in his transfer.
Vijayan too has not been unknown to controversy. He was earlier placed under suspension on charges of leaking out information to the media about the transit of the Kozhikode train arson case accused from Maharashtra. Ajithkumar had then given a report against Vijayan.
But Vijayan had been exonerated in a detailed probe report filed by other senior officers.
Meanwhile, an earlier inquiry report of Ajithkumar on the disruption during the Thrissur pooram too triggered a row. The report said that the Thiruvambady devaswom, which is one of the organisers, deliberately created issues at the pooram.
Interestingly, the row erupted just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, and hence the opposition parties made it an election issue to trigger anti-government sentiments. The report was, however, later rejected by the state police chief citing shortcomings and a three-level inquiry was subsequently ordered.
