The Supreme Court Collegium, comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjeev Khanna and BR Gavai, has made recommendations for the appointment of new Chief Justices for several High Courts. The resolutions, passed on December 27, were officially uploaded on the website on the evening of December 28.
Justice Sheel Nagu, a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, has been recommended for the position of Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This recommendation comes following the retirement of Mr. Justice Ravi Shankar Jha, creating a vacancy in the office of the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Similarly, Justice Arun Bhansali, a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, has been recommended for the role of Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. The vacancy arises due to the retirement of Mr. Justice Pritinker Diwaker from the position of Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad.
The Collegium also recommended Justice Vijay Bishnoi, a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. This recommendation follows the elevation of Mr. Justice Sandeep Mehta to the Supreme Court, resulting in a vacancy in the Chief Justice’s office at the Gauhati High Court.
Furthermore, Justice BR Sarangi, a Judge of the Orissa High Court, has been recommended for the position of Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. This recommendation anticipates the forthcoming vacancy in the office of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jharkhand due to the impending retirement of Mr. Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra.
Additionally, Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court (PHC: Chhattisgarh), has been recommended to serve as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. This recommendation follows the elevation of Mr. Justice Augustine George Masih to the Supreme Court, leading to a vacancy in the Chief Justice’s office of the Rajasthan High Court.
