Muneesh Kapur has been appointed to the role of Executive Director (ED) at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), effective from October 3, 2023. The RBI announced this appointment in a statement on October 4. Prior to his promotion to the position of ED, Kapur served as the Adviser-in-Charge of the Monetary Policy Department and also held the position of Secretary to the Monetary Policy Committee.
With nearly three decades of experience at the Reserve Bank, Kapur has worked extensively in the fields of macroeconomic policy, research, and monetary policy within the Department of Economic Policy and Research and the Monetary Policy Department. Additionally, he served as an adviser to the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund from 2012 to 2015.
In his role as Executive Director, Kapur will oversee the Department of Economic and Policy Research. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).
