The long race Rajasthan’s DGP post has narrowed further with the state government giving clear indications of its plan by reshuffling top five IPS officers prior to the announcement of the new DGP.
After DGP Bhupindra Singh Yadav (IPS:1986:RJ) opting for VRS, his next in command and DG (crime) M L Lather (IPS:1987:RJ) has become the frontrunner for the top post. Lather is set to retire in May 2021. The new Director General of Police (DGP) is likely to be announced soon.
Our sources in Rajasthan Police and bureaucracy inform us that the recent reshuffle of five senior IPS officers has pushed IPS officer B L Soni (IPS:1988:RJ), out of the race for the top slot. BL Soni is given the post of DG ACB, instead.
Earlier, IPS officer Alok Tripathi (IPS:1986:RJ) retired after being ADG and DG of ACB for a period of four years. In case Lather becomes DGP after Singh retires, then the former will get an extension of two years which will put senior officers, who still have two years of service left, out of the race, claimed sources in the police department.
Rajeev Dasot (IPS:1987:RJ), who has been appointed DG (jail) from DG (home guard), is likely to retire at the same post.
