The Rajasthan government on Monday (30.06.2025) appointed Rajeev Kumar Sharma (IPS:1990:RJ), the senior-most IPS officer in the state cadre, as the new Director General of Police (DGP). He will take over from Acting DGP Ravi Prakash Meharda (IPS:1991:RJ), who retires today (June 30).
Sharma is currently on central deputation, serving as Director General (DG) of the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D).
www.legendofficers.com had first reported on June 10 that Sharma was the frontrunner for the top police post in Rajasthan. With the state government now officially confirming his appointment, our reporting has once again proven accurate on key bureaucratic developments.
On June 28, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) submitted a panel of three senior IPS officers to the Rajasthan government for the DGP post. Apart from Rajeev Sharma, the panel included Rajesh Nirwan (IPS:1992:RJ) and Sanjay Kumar Agrawal (IPS:1992:RJ).
