A case has been registered against a retired IAS in Lucknow for allegedly putting ‘misinformation’ on social media regarding government’s dealing with the Covid-19. The government termed his post ‘inaccurate’ and ‘insulting’ to itself.

The 1982 batch officer Surya Pratap Singh had tweeted that a senior bureaucrat had scolded the District Magistrates for proposing more tests for coronavirus. He also questioned government strategy, of keeping the number of tests low, to show the low occurrence of COVID-19 in the state.

The case was filed at the Hazratganj police station on Thursday on a complaint by the police outpost in charge, secretariat.

Abhay Mishra, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Hazratganj said that the relevant sections of the IT Act would also be included after the probe.

Meanwhile, Singh said he was waiting for the police to arrest him. “I am shocked and stunned at this action”, he added.
