Unless the central government surprises again, it is almost certain that the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) will get a new chairman by July 31, 2023. It seems unlikely that Vivek Johri (IRS-C&IT:1985) will get a tenure extension as CBIC Chairman and is set to retire on July 31.
If sources are to be believed, the meeting of the Committee of Secretaries (CoS) took place to select Johri’s successor. The CoS deliberated upon the names of two batch mates for the coveted post namely Rajiv Talwar (IRS-C&IT: 1988) and Sanjay Kumar Agarwal (IRS-C&IT: 1988).
Within the next couple of days, it will become clear which of these two gets this responsibility.
