West Bengal: Rajiv Sinha to be appointed Election Commissioner of state

Former Chief Secretary of West Bengal Rajiv Sinha (Retd IAS:1986:WB) is to be appointed Election Commissioner in the state. He is considered one of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's trusted officers, and his appointment to the post was recommended by the state government.

Former Chief Secretary of West Bengal Rajiv Sinha (Retd IAS:1986:WB) is to be appointed Election Commissioner in the state. He is considered one of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s trusted officers, and his appointment to the post was recommended by the state government.

West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose approved Rajiv Sinha’s appointment. As state election commissioner, he will supervise the upcoming panchayat elections in Bengal. Panchayat elections are due this year, but the dates have not yet been announced.

Sinha served as the state chief secretary from September 2019 to September 2020. After retirement from the top post, he was appointed as Chairman of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation.
