The West Bengal government has named retired IAS Mahua Banerjee (IAS:2009:WB) as the new Chairman of the State Public Service Commission (PSC). Governor C V Ananda Bose appointed her on Tuesday, following the state government’s recommendation.
The position of Chairman of the State Public Service Commission had remained vacant for an extended period. When the issue was brought to court, swift action was taken to appoint a chairman. The delay in appointing a chairman had caused delays in the recruitment of several government posts in the state through the PSC.
The interview process for various competitive examinations, including the WBCS and Judicial Service, had been halted. A case was filed in the Calcutta High Court regarding this matter, prompting the court to order the swift appointment of the PSC chairman.
It is anticipated that the appointment of the new chairman will accelerate the recruitment processes in the state.
